The Weems Memorial Healthcare Foundation exists to drive philanthropic support of Weems Memorial by actively supporting Weems' desire to serve the community and its visitors.

At Weems Memorial Healthcare Foundation, every gift helps strengthen the health of our community. In partnership with the Hospital Board, and leadership team we have identified key priorities for 2026 where generosity & sponsorship proceeds can make an immediate and lasting difference.

Comfort and Care — Supporting Our Growing Clinics
In the last two years, our clinics welcomed (on average) more than 6,600 patient visits, and that number continues to grow. Each visit represents a neighbor, friend, or visitor receiving compassionate, local care right here in Franklin County.

To meet this growing need, our first fundraising priority is to update exam room beds — an investment that enhances both comfort and quality of care. Goal: $40,000 which would allow for direct enhancements as follows:

  • West Clinic: 3 standard beds
  • East Clinic: 5 standard beds
  • Plus one specialty bed: for each clinic

These upgrades will help ensure that every patient—from young families to lifelong residents—receives care in a safe, welcoming, and modern environment.

Stronger Bones, Stronger Community — Bringing DEXA Screening Home
Our next major goal is to bring a DEXA (bone density) machine to Weems Memorial Hospital. This vital piece of equipment allows for quick, painless bone density screenings—an important tool in preventing osteoporosis and fractures.

Today, Franklin County residents must travel long distances for these screenings, even for routine annual tests. With your support, we can change that. (Estimated cost for machine: $67K)

A local DEXA machine will help protect some of our most vulnerable neighbors:

  • Women 65 and older
  • Men 70 and older
  • Adults over 50 with risk factors like low body weight, family history of osteoporosis, certain medications, or chronic health conditions

Cocktails & Chef-Curated Fare For-a-Cause

Saturday, November 14, 2026
Apalachicola Yacht Club
7 - 10:30 pm

Each event thus far has brought together many likeminded residents, visitors and supporters of our community who join us in our commitment to enhance the availability and confidence in rural healthcare available here in Franklin County. With modest yet building net outcome from the event, we are motivated to stay-the-course. And while a positive momentum is building, there is still much more we can do, together*. Our small-but-mighty team is seeking major local or corporate sponsors for this year’s event to continue to drive success that will benefit all who would be served through Weems Memorial Hospital.

*Venue and vendor costs to be offset through donations can yield increased net funds to go directly to underwrite 2026-2027 priorities, with your help.

There's more to do — email us if you want to get involved or make a donation. Checks can be mailed to us at PO Box 786, Apalachicola, FL 32329.

Many thanks!
