WEEMS AMBULANCE POLICY

Recent concerns about demands on Weems EMS highlight the need for residents to understand when they should call 911 and request emergency ambulance service. An important guideline is: Call for an ambulance when you have had a sudden medical emergency, when your health is in serious danger, and when every second counts to prevent your health from getting worse. Following Medicare guidelines, Weems EMS transports all patients to the nearest appropriate facility regardless of their insurance or ability to pay for services. Under Medicare policy, if two hospitals close to each other provide the same services, Medicare's payment will be based on the charge to the closest appropriate facility. Should you have any questions, or need more information, please call Weems Memorial Hospital (653-8853), proudly serving Franklin County!

QUALITY AND SAFETY ARE OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE AT WEEMS

Sometimes it takes two to assure quality care and safety for the patients at Weems. According to our nursing staff two identifiers--a patient's name and a patient's date of birth--must be checked to make sure any procedure being carried out is carried out on the right patient.Weems is launching a public awareness campaign about the importance of "It Takes Two to Make a Difference." It takes two identifiers and it doesn't hurt if the patient's family also makes sure that the identifiers are being checked before any medical activity on their loved one is performed. Each patient will have the  two identifiers on a white arm band to help with the verification. Remember:"It Takes Two" and public awareness, as well!

Weems Hospital announces twenty new trustees have been named to the George E. Weems Memorial Healthcare Foundation. Trustees gathered in the hospital's cafeteria Friday, April 23rd to begin planning ways to support the hospital's goals through philanthropy. Last fall county commissioners encouraged the hospital's governing board to establish a foundation as the hospital begins construction of a new urgent care clinic in Carrabelle and starts drawing up plans for a new hospital facility in Apalachicola. Costs to provide quality healthcare are increasing in every area of the country as the population ages and technology expands.
